                      ABOUT  COLLAGE'
With collage', the artist offers the viewer a visual experience beyond the limitations of paint. Collage' elements such as cut or torn paper, photogtaphy, and found objects are combined by the artist.
The arrangement of these disparate elements is critical to the success of the piece. The subtlest adjustment  to the colors or composition can result in a dramatic shift to impact and meaning.
With this complex presentation of seemingly unrelated elements, the artist challenges the viewer emotionally and intellectually. Instinct is responding to color  and raw energy. Intellect is seeking structure and refinement. With a successful artistic balance, the result is a kind of intensely personal visual poetry.

The purpose of theSOCA is to promote & encourage the art of collage via meetings, lectures, demonstrations, workshops, & exhibits; to contribute to the cultural atmosphere of Northeast Floridamby generating public interest in collage & mixed media; & to elevate the stature of collage by increasing a broad appreciation of collage as a fine art.

The word collage' is derived from the French verb coller, meaning to glue or paste.

Collage' is defined by SOCA as an artistic composition of materials & objects adhered to a surface, often with unifying lines & color. The composition may be two dimensional or three dimensional & must be able to be hung on a wall.  Three dimensional work is called assemblage.
